Sankofa: Storytelling for the digital age nears its conclusion

Sankofa: Storytelling for the digital age nears its conclusion

Jan 5, 2021

CDEC’s Sankofa storytelling project has been working for two years with schools across three countries in Europe to use traditional storytelling techniques to explore local to global themes. Thanks to funding from Erasmus+, CDEC has led a partnership with three other organisations: Global Learning London, SOSNA from Slovakia and SEVER from the Czech Republic.

Global themes in stories

In each country, teachers have been working with pupils to explore and think critically about stories from the past and present around global themes and have created new stories about the future world they want.  To see the comics, films, animations and stories created and the schools involved, go to the project website here where they are being shared over the next few months.

Pupils have explored the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), developed storytelling and story making skills, practised critical thinking and have used creativity and imagination to make their new stories for a better world.

Free resources for all teachers

For teachers who would like to use storytelling as an effective and engaging way of learning see the Sankofa Learning Guide created by the partners on the website.  This will be followed in 2021 by a practical Sankofa Teacher Toolkit with activities and resources for use in the classroom centred around global SDG themes. We are also holding an online storytelling event at the end of February/beginning of March which is open to all.
