Welcoming the Stranger

Welcoming the Stranger - Join Bear and experience a journey into Creativity, Compassion, and Global Learning

This September, we are absolutely thrilled to embark on a remarkable journey of creativity, compassion, and global learning in collaboration with our friends from the Laal Collective.

Over the next three years, 12 primary schools from across Cumbria will come together to make a profound difference in the lives of young pupils and staff. And at the heart of it all, we have a special friend joining us on this adventure - 'Bear'!

Our Primary Aim: Building Emotional Skills and Resilience Through Creativity

Our mission is clear: to cultivate emotional skills and resilience in our students through the power of arts-based approaches and the Global Learning pedagogies. In focusing on themes of welcome, using a puppet bear we enable children's imaginations, creativity and empathy as well as support teachers in embedding these skills in curricula and practice for the long-term.

Nurturing Creative and Artistic Talents

Our ultimate aspiration is to nurture social and emotional development alongside the creative and artistic talents of not just our pupils but also our dedicated school staff. We firmly believe that these skills are more than just artistic expressions; they are instruments of empowerment, igniting the flames of empathy, compassion, and resilience within our young learners. Together, these qualities will form the foundation for joyful, engaged and inclusive learning.

A Beacon of Hope Amidst Challenges

As we explore how arts-based approaches, intertwined with global learning, can serve as beacons of hope, mitigating the disadvantages our pupils may face, we are seeking to build on the existing evidence - anecdotal and researched - that developing the creative facets of our brains supports our overall development.

Gratitude to Paul Hamlyn Foundation

None of this would be possible without the generous support of the Paul Hamlyn Foundation, whose unwavering commitment to education and the arts has made this project a reality.
